Abstract The long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse are very serious and far-reaching. This paper presents an adapted model of optimism therapy for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. It is developed for dealing with complex problems such as depression, helplessness, anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment problems, psycho-sexual complaints, cognitive disturbances, self-concept and identity problems, and so on, which are often prevalent in this category of patients. Suggestions are made for further research, and the usefulness of a distinctive diagnostic category called Childhood Abuse Survivor Disorder is suggested.
